Netgear R7000 dropping wifi -- disable competing wifi on ISP modem, get Google Wifi, or what? I bought the R7000 router back in May 2014, and it was a lifesaver. I have a 3500 sq. ft. two-story house, and had been using an older Netgear router with a couple of power line adapters to middling success.

It seems that this started after updating the firmware to version V1.0.9.12_1.2.23, although it didn't start immediately.
